How Pick a Pressie works

The cards

Photo cards are live listings from the shops we work with, and each card says which shop it comes from. Today that is eBay: new, fixed-price listings from UK sellers with 98% feedback or better. We run 56 searches about four times a day, and only ever show a listing checked with its shop in the last six hours. We leave out anything that needs a size, bundles and trade lots. Each card shows the shop's own price, postage and delivery estimate; check them on the listing before you buy.

Text cards are gift ideas we picked by hand. They open a search on Amazon so you can choose the exact one. They show in the UK, Ireland and the US.

The swiping

Every card has labels such as "coffee", "silver" or "outdoors". Swiping right raises those labels, swiping left lowers them, and the next cards lean towards what's working. A few random cards stay in the mix so the deck doesn't get stuck. Changed your mind? The undo button takes back your last swipe.

Your data

No account, no name, no email and no cookies. Your deck, swipes and shortlist are kept in your own browser's storage and never sent to us. When you swipe, your browser tells us anonymously which card got a yes or a no, so we can count the most swiped gifts. The privacy page has the details.

How we make money

We earn a commission when you buy through eBay and Amazon links, at no extra cost to you. Commission never changes which cards you see: your swipes do. Affiliate disclosure.
