Privacy
Pick a Pressie is run by Little Jam Jar Ltd (company number 17539606, England and Wales), the data controller; full company details. ICO registration: ZC283636. This page says what is recorded when you use Pressie, for how long, and why. It is short because there are no accounts, no sign-up and no cookies.
Your deck stays on your device
Who you are buying for, your budget, your picks, your swipes and your shortlist are kept in your browser's own storage on this device, so you can carry on later. The cards you have already swiped are remembered the same way, so your next deck starts with ones you have not seen. They are never sent to us as a set and are not linked to you. "Start a new deck" clears them, and so does clearing your browser's site data. A shortlist link you choose to share carries your picks in the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers do not send to our server.
What our server records
Our web server, like every web server, keeps an access log: the address your connection came from, the page requested, the time, the browser's description of itself, the page that sent you here and the country Cloudflare reports for your connection. We use these logs to keep the site working and to see which pages are read. They are kept for 14 days and then deleted.
When you swipe a card, your browser sends a short request to this site naming who the deck is for (for example "Mum"), the card and your answer (yes, no or love). When you follow a shop link, your browser may send a similar ping naming the page and the shop. These requests carry no cookie and no deck, and are logged in the same way, kept for the same 14 days. Once a day we turn them into counts, such as how many people said yes to a card, which feed the Most swiped page. The counts are kept without any address or anything that identifies a person.
What is not done
No cookies are set. No analytics scripts, trackers or advertising code run here. Fonts, styles and scripts are served from pickapressie.com. We do not sell, share or combine anything about visitors.
Your country and the shop you see
To show shops that deliver to you, the page asks our server once a visit which country you are connecting from. Cloudflare works that out from your connection; our server reads it from that one request and answers with the two-letter code. We do not store the answer and we do not log that request. Your browser keeps the code until you close the tab.
Shop photos
eBay cards show the listing's photo. Your browser fetches it directly from eBay's image host (i.ebayimg.com), so eBay sees your address and your browser's description of itself, as any website you load an image from would. We ask browsers not to tell eBay which of our pages you are on.
Links to shops
eBay links carry the eBay Partner Network's tracking code; Amazon links carry our Associates tag. From the moment you arrive on their site, their privacy terms apply and they know you came from Pick a Pressie.
If you email hello@pickapressie.com we keep your address and message for up to 12 months after we've dealt with it, then delete them. The message passes through SimpleLogin, which forwards it to our mailbox at Proton.
Processors
Cloudflare, Inc. (network and edge): it handles the connection between your browser and our server, sees your address as part of that, and tells our server which country the connection comes from. Proton AG, which runs SimpleLogin and our mailbox.
Your rights
Ask us about, correct or delete personal data by emailing hello@pickapressie.com. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
